Orlando, Florida – Strong storms are expected to impact east central Florida this afternoon, bringing dangerous wind gusts, lightning, and hail to areas southeast of the I-4 corridor from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, gusts may reach up to 55 mph with a 5–15% chance of hitting 60 mph in localized cells. Coin-sized hail, heavy rainfall, and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning are also likely across cities including Melbourne, Kissimmee, Titusville, and Vero Beach.

The severe weather threat, classified as a Level 1 risk, will mainly affect areas south of Orlando. Travel delays, downed tree limbs, and isolated power outages are possible during peak commute hours. Brief tornadoes are not expected, but not entirely ruled out. The strongest cells are likely between 3 and 7 p.m.

Temperatures will surge into the low to mid-90s inland and mid-80s to low 90s along the coast, adding to the instability. Residents along the coast, especially near Cape Canaveral, should also be aware of moderate rip current risks.

Storm threats are expected to ease after 9 p.m., but additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen. Stay weather-aware and avoid outdoor activity during thunderstorm activity.
