Orlando, Florida – Drivers across East Central Florida are waking up to hazardous travel conditions this morning as dense fog spreads east from Lake County into the I-4 corridor, sharply reducing visibility during the early commute.
According to the National Weather Service office in Melbourne, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through 9 a.m. for portions of Lake County and surrounding areas, including parts of the Orlando metro. Visibility may drop below a quarter mile at times, especially along major roadways such as Interstate 4, State Road 417, and surface streets in low-lying areas.
The fog developed overnight and continues to slowly expand eastward, creating difficult driving conditions in communities including Leesburg, Kissimmee, Sanford, and near Orlando International Airport. Motorists may encounter sudden visibility drops, particularly near lakes, wetlands, and shaded roadways. Aviation delays are also possible during the worst conditions.
Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights. Officials stress avoiding high beams, which can worsen visibility in dense fog. Pedestrians and cyclists should also use extra caution near roadways.
Fog is expected to gradually lift by late morning, giving way to warm and mostly dry conditions this afternoon with highs near 80 degrees. While travel conditions should improve later today, residents are encouraged to stay alert for updates in case advisories are extended or expanded.
