MIAMI, Fla. – A hazy dawn stretches across Biscayne Bay, palm fronds swaying under a steady breeze and waves breaking harder along the shoreline. It’s a deceptively beautiful morning that masks a real danger—a High Rip Current Risk remains in effect through this evening for Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, brisk northeast winds of 10 to 15 mph are creating rough surf and rip currents capable of sweeping even experienced swimmers away from shore. Beachgoers are urged to avoid entering the ocean today and to heed all local flag warnings. Those planning coastal travel or fishing near inlets should also watch for higher surf and shifting sands along jetties and piers.

Thursday will bring more sunshine and highs near 77°F, but the rip current threat may linger as the breeze continues. The Atlantic remains active, with persistent swells generated by distant systems and a strong pressure gradient holding firm across South Florida.

Conditions gradually improve by Friday, when winds turn east and surf begins to settle. Weekend weather looks ideal—highs near 80°F, mostly sunny skies, and calmer seas by Saturday. Still, lifeguards warn that rip currents can persist for days even after advisories end.

The rare G4 solar storm that illuminated the Northern Lights as far south as Alabama earlier this week has faded, though minor radio interference remains possible today. For now, South Florida’s main hazard lies not in the sky, but beneath the waves—making this a day for beach caution rather than beach swimming.
