MIAMI, Fla. – South Florida heads into the weekend under coastal flood and rip current alerts, as persistent onshore winds and high tides continue to create dangerous surf and minor flooding along low-lying coastal areas. The National Weather Service in Miami warns that these hazards will last through at least Friday morning, particularly for Miami-Dade beaches and barrier islands.

According to the NWS, northeast winds of 15 to 20 mph and higher gusts will maintain rough surf and elevated water levels. The combination is expected to produce minor tidal flooding along Biscayne Bay and flood-prone areas near Collins Avenue and A1A. Beachgoers are urged to stay out of the surf, as rip currents can sweep even experienced swimmers away from shore. Officials advise swimming only near lifeguards and avoiding flooded roadways during high tide.

Despite the hazards, inland conditions remain calm and sunny, with highs near 83°F Friday and 82°F Saturday. The weekend will bring plenty of warmth and sunshine across South Florida, ideal for outdoor events and early Halloween decorating once the tides subside. Sunday looks mostly sunny before a few isolated showers return Sunday night.

Residents should monitor coastal conditions through the National Weather Service and local updates, especially if planning to travel along coastal roads or beaches. The good news: next week’s outlook favors continued sunshine and near-normal fall temperatures across the region.
