Melbourne, Florida – 45 mph wind gusts are creating dangerous surf and life-threatening rip currents through Saturday evening, disrupting beach and boating conditions along the Atlantic coast.

A cold front is pushing through East Central Florida today, bringing rapidly increasing winds and hazardous marine conditions. Sustained winds of 30 to 40 mph, with higher gusts along the coast, are driving rough seas, large breaking waves, and strong, persistent rip currents from Daytona Beach through Melbourne to Vero Beach.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, the highest impacts will occur this afternoon and evening as winds peak and hazardous surf conditions worsen. Volusia, Brevard, and Indian River counties face the greatest risk, with dangerous conditions spreading south toward the Treasure Coast through the day.

Beachgoers are strongly urged to stay out of the water due to the high risk of rip currents. Boaters should avoid venturing offshore as gale-force conditions and rough seas make navigation dangerous. Minor beach erosion is also possible in vulnerable coastal areas.

Rain showers will develop through the afternoon and evening, with isolated lightning storms possible, briefly reducing visibility along coastal roadways such as A1A and I-95.

Hazardous conditions will persist into tonight before gradually improving late. Additional advisories may remain in effect as elevated surf and rip current risks continue into Sunday.
