Florida – Wind is already whipping across Jacksonville this afternoon, pushing choppy waves toward shore and creating dangerous conditions along area beaches. Flags are flying, surf is building, and rip currents are a serious threat if you head into the water right now.
According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a High Surf Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. Friday, along with a rip current risk through early Friday morning. Northeasterly winds are sustained near 17 mph with gusts reaching up to 32 mph, driving rough surf and hazardous swimming conditions along the Atlantic coastline.
A few light showers continue to pass through the region, especially west of I-95, with brief downpours possible into the late afternoon. Roads may turn slick at times, particularly along I-295 and coastal routes, but the bigger concern remains beach safety.
Conditions improve slightly by Friday as sunshine returns and highs climb to around 75°. Winds remain breezy, but surf gradually subsides through the morning, making beach conditions safer heading into the afternoon.
The weekend brings classic spring warmth. Highs reach the upper 70s Saturday and near 80° Sunday with mostly sunny skies. Breezes linger, but overall conditions favor outdoor plans across Duval County and surrounding areas.
Looking ahead, temperatures continue trending upward into the low to mid-80s early next week, signaling an early taste of summer across northeast Florida.
