Jacksonville, Florida – Temperatures will drop to 30 degrees or lower along the Florida-Georgia border by midnight, putting crops, pets and exposed pipes at risk through the Monday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a Freeze Warning is in effect from midnight tonight until 9 a.m. Monday for Baker, Inland Nassau, Hamilton and Columbia counties in northeast Florida, along with much of southeast Georgia including Ware, Pierce, Brantley, Camden and Glynn counties. Lows could bottom out near 30 degrees. A Freeze Watch follows late Monday night through Tuesday morning, when some inland communities could plunge to 25 degrees.
In Florida, communities such as Macclenny, Hilliard, White Springs and Jasper face several hours below freezing before sunrise Monday. Across the state line, Waycross, Jesup, Alma and Folkston could see a harder freeze Tuesday morning if colder air settles in.
Tender vegetation may suffer damage after several hours below 32 degrees. Residents should cover plants, bring pets indoors and check on elderly neighbors. Wrap exposed pipes or allow faucets to drip slowly to prevent freezing.
Cold conditions ease after 9 a.m. Monday, but another round of freezing temperatures could develop before daybreak Tuesday. Additional warnings may be issued as confidence increases in the colder air.
