Stuart, FL – Residents along Florida’s Treasure Coast are under a Tropical Storm Watch today as the National Weather Service (NWS) continues to monitor developing conditions in Martin County. Winds up to 30 mph and periods of heavy rain are expected through Sunday.

According to the NWS in Melbourne, the region could experience peak sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching 30 mph. While those speeds remain below tropical storm force, forecasters caution that the storm track could still produce hazardous conditions. Officials urge residents to secure outdoor items and complete storm preparations before winds strengthen.

Potential impacts include scattered power outages, downed tree limbs, and hazardous travel over bridges and elevated roadways. A few local roads may become impassable due to debris.

No storm surge flooding is expected in Martin County, though forecasters warn of rough surf, beach erosion, and dangerous rip currents. Rainfall totals of around 1 inch are forecast, with localized flooding possible in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Drivers are advised to avoid underpasses and flooded roads.

The tornado threat remains low, with conditions currently unfavorable for rotation.

Local officials recommend residents monitor updates throughout the day and heed any advisories. “Even with a limited storm threat, preparation is always key to safety,” NWS officials noted.
