Melbourne, Florida – An area of low pressure offshore of Florida’s east coast has a 40% chance of developing into a tropical system by mid to late week, bringing heavy rain and localized flooding risks through the region. According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, bands of showers and embedded thunderstorms will move onshore this morning and spread inland through the afternoon and evening.
Daily rain chances hover between 80-90%, with widespread totals expected to reach 1 to 3 inches through Wednesday. Some locations may see locally higher amounts exceeding 4 inches where repeated heavy rainfall occurs. Tampa and Sarasota counties could receive between 2 and 3 inches, while coastal areas including Daytona Beach and Melbourne will see lighter rain totals near 1 inch.
Flooding is the main concern as low-lying and urban areas with poor drainage face possible water accumulation, swelled swales, and ponding on roadways. Residents are urged to monitor local forecasts, avoid driving through flooded streets, and prepare for gusty winds and lightning from scattered storms.
This weather threat will continue through midweek with updates expected as the tropical disturbance tracks slowly westward across the Florida peninsula. Stay informed at weather.gov/melbourne.
