Fort Myers, FL – A Lee County mother and son were allegedly taken into custody this week after authorities say the pair executed a robbery at a local arcade, with the son reportedly holding up the business at gunpoint while the mother allegedly acted as the getaway driver.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the incident unfolded Friday at Kings World Arcade. Officials said a man allegedly entered the business, held the cashier at gunpoint, and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. Deputies reviewed surveillance footage showing the suspect running to a Toyota RAV4, and analysts with LCSO’s Real Time Intelligence Center used DOT footage and license plate data to track the getaway vehicle.
On Tuesday, authorities located the vehicle and detained its driver, identified as 43-year-old Yideyla Suarez Cedeno. Her 22-year-old son, Jose Baez Suarez, was also on the scene and detained, according to the sheriff’s office.
After an investigation by Violent Crimes Detectives, authorities allegedly determined Jose Suarez entered the arcade, demanded money, and then fled—while his mother allegedly waited nearby in the RAV4 as the getaway driver. Deputies reportedly recovered clothing and a black BB gun resembling the weapon used in the robbery.
The sheriff’s office confirmed both individuals were arrested and charged in connection with the alleged robbery. Further details on court proceedings were not immediately available.
