Miami, Florida – Thunderstorms and scorching heat will collide in Miami on Thursday, July 17th, bringing threats of downpours, lightning, and a heat index soaring past 100°. Travelers along I-95 and I-195 should prepare for wet roads and sudden slowdowns, especially during the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, a 70% chance of thunderstorms begins late morning Thursday, with showers likely to intensify after 2 p.m. Southeast winds will push heat index values as high as 101°, making it feel even hotter in direct sun. Rainfall could lead to brief flooding in low-lying neighborhoods and along busy thoroughfares.

Residents in Miami, Hialeah, and Miami Beach are advised to avoid non-essential travel during storms, stay indoors when lightning is nearby, and keep electronic devices charged in case of power outages. Outdoor plans should be rescheduled for earlier in the day or postponed until evening. Those without air conditioning should seek cool shelters, as humidity will make conditions oppressive.

Friday brings only a slight chance of storms after 8 a.m., but the heat remains, with highs near 88°. Mostly clear nights will offer little relief, as overnight lows hover in the low 80s. The weekend will turn sunnier, but isolated storms are possible late Saturday. By Monday, daily thunderstorm chances increase again, making this a classic pattern for South Florida’s summer.

Warnings remain in effect for Miami through Thursday evening. Check back for new advisories as conditions evolve.
