Miami, Florida – Beachgoers in South Florida should think twice before diving into the surf this week. A high rip current risk is in effect along the Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach county coastlines through Tuesday evening, posing a serious hazard to swimmers and surfers.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, the elevated rip current threat will last from Monday morning, June 23, through Tuesday night, June 24, driven by steady onshore winds and ocean conditions. Lifeguards are urging residents and visitors to stay close to guarded beaches and avoid entering the ocean unsupervised.

These dangerous currents can quickly pull even strong swimmers away from the shore. If caught, don’t fight the current — float, wave for help, or swim parallel to the beach until you escape its grip.

Meanwhile, Tuesday’s forecast shows a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms with a high near 86°F and gusts up to 20 mph, making for a stormy and unsafe beach day overall. Winds will shift north to northeast during the day, which may prolong choppy conditions through midweek.

Looking Ahead: Miami Five-Day Forecast (June 23–28)

  • Monday: High 87°F, chance of storms (40%)
  • Tuesday: Showers/storms likely (70%), high 86°F
  • Wednesday: More storms (70%), high 86°F
