Miami, FL – South Florida residents should prepare for another round of widespread showers and thunderstorms today, with the potential for heavy rainfall to cause localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, numerous storms are expected to develop across the region from this afternoon into the evening. The heaviest rainfall is forecast for the east coast metro areas, including Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties, as well as the Lake Okeechobee region.

Meteorologists warn that rainfall totals will generally range between 0.5 and 1.5 inches, though some locations could see much higher amounts. The agency notes there is a 1 in 10 chance of more than 2 inches of rain falling in areas hit by multiple rounds of storms.

Periods of heavy downpours may quickly overwhelm storm drains and low-lying areas, creating hazardous travel conditions on major highways and residential streets. Forecasters caution drivers to avoid flooded roads and remind residents of the slogan: “Turn around, don’t drown.”

Showers are expected to continue into the evening, with conditions gradually improving overnight. Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and use extra caution when traveling in flood-prone areas.
