Miami, Florida – Strong wind gusts and hail could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across eastern South Florida today as isolated severe storms develop between noon and 8 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) has been issued for the region, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach. The main threats include wind gusts over 50 mph, small to marginally severe hail, and frequent lightning. While tornadoes are not expected, one or two cannot be entirely ruled out.
Cities such as Homestead, Boca Raton, and Belle Glade fall within the highest risk area for damaging wind gusts—estimated between 5% and 14% likelihood within 25 miles. Residents in these zones should secure loose objects, monitor alerts, and avoid non-essential travel during peak storm hours.
Localized flooding could impact low-lying streets, particularly in urban areas with poor drainage. Those driving should watch for ponding water and reduced visibility.
Storm activity is expected to taper off after 8 p.m., though additional advisories may be issued if conditions persist or intensify. Stay tuned to local updates and have multiple ways to receive warnings throughout the day.
