Orlando, Fla. – Bands of strong thunderstorms are pushing across East Central Florida this morning, bringing gusty winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall to cities from Orlando to Vero Beach through 3 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) remains in effect for much of the region, with the greatest threat window extending from early morning to early afternoon. Gusts could reach 55 mph, with a 15% chance of even stronger wind bursts topping 60 mph. Frequent lightning and downpours of 1 to 2 inches are also expected.

Storms are tracking southeast ahead of a late-season cold front, affecting major corridors like I-4, I-95, and U.S. 192. Cities including Orlando, Kissimmee, Melbourne, and Fort Pierce may see rapid weather changes. Small to coin-sized hail and even a brief, isolated tornado can’t be ruled out, though the tornado risk remains very low.

If you’re in the path of storms, head indoors, secure outdoor items, and avoid travel where possible. Lightning will be widespread — especially dangerous near water or open fields.

Storm activity is expected to taper off later this afternoon, but additional advisories may follow if conditions worsen.
