Miami, FL – A high rip current risk has been issued for Miami beaches, starting today and lasting through Friday evening. Residents and visitors are advised to stay cautious as onshore flow increases the danger for swimmers along the coast.
According to the National Weather Service, the high rip current risk is in effect from 11 AM EDT Wednesday through Friday evening for Coastal Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties. Rip currents can easily sweep swimmers away from shore and pose a significant danger to anyone in the water. The service advises that even the best swimmers are at risk. The hazard also coincides with the spring weather pattern that is expected to bring breezy conditions, with winds up to 22 mph.
Residents should avoid swimming in the ocean, especially near piers and jetties, where rip currents are strongest. The National Weather Service recommends swimming near lifeguards and relaxing if caught in a rip current. Swimmers should attempt to float and signal for help if unable to escape.
With Miami’s spring weather featuring a high of 81°F on Wednesday, the coast is expected to stay sunny and breezy for the coming days. While conditions improve over the weekend, be cautious near the water through Friday evening.
