Fort Myers, FL – A sneaker sale arranged through Snapchat ended in an armed robbery and a quick arrest, authorities said.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Tuesday to a residence on Xelda Avenue North after reports of an armed robbery. Investigators said the victim had been communicating with the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Jahmarion Kadel Pigford, about purchasing sneakers. When the victim arrived at the meeting location, Pigford allegedly entered the victim’s vehicle and brandished a firearm.
Detectives reported that Pigford allegedly pressed the firearm against the victim’s head while demanding money. Fearing for their safety, the victim handed over their wallet containing cash and credit cards before Pigford fled the scene.
Due to the seriousness of the incident, the Sheriff’s Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation. With the help of the Advanced Technology Support Unit, deputies tracked Pigford to a nearby residence where he was found hiding under a carport.
When approached by deputies, Pigford allegedly attempted to escape by jumping a backyard fence but was quickly apprehended. Authorities said he was transported to the Lee County Jail and charged with Robbery with a Firearm and Resisting an Officer Without Violence.
The Sheriff’s Office credited rapid coordination between its specialized units for the quick arrest.
