Fort Myers, FL – Lee County residents heading out of town can now request a free safety service from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) to keep their homes secure while they’re away.

According to LCSO, the department provides Vacation House Checks through its Civilian Support Unit (CSU). Trained volunteers will patrol homes, checking perimeter doors, windows, and gates to ensure they remain secure. They will also monitor for unusual activity, identify unaccompanied vehicles, and report any uncollected mail or packages.

Residents who sign up will be notified if CSU personnel discover anything unusual on the property. The sheriff’s office emphasized that the program is designed to provide peace of mind for families on vacation while deterring potential criminal activity.

To request the service, homeowners can sign up online at sheriffleefl.org, or call 239-477-1000 to schedule a check.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno’s office encouraged residents to take advantage of the program, noting that proactive measures like this help reduce crime and strengthen community safety.

The Civilian Support Unit is made up of trained volunteers who donate their time to assist deputies with crime prevention and neighborhood security.

This free program is available year-round to all Lee County residents planning extended absences.
