Tallahassee, Florida – A Marginal Risk of severe weather is in place for parts of the Florida Panhandle, Southeast Alabama, and Southwest Georgia Thursday afternoon and evening. This could bring isolated severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts and hail up to the size of a quarter, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The NWS warns that these storms may cause short-lived but intense conditions. The greatest risk for severe storms is expected between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Thursday, primarily affecting the Big Bend and areas to the north. While widespread severe weather is unlikely, residents should be prepared for sudden weather changes, including the potential for power outages and travel disruptions.

In addition to the severe storm threat, there is a risk for excessive rainfall, especially along the Florida-Georgia border. Locally heavy rain could lead to flash flooding in urban and low-lying areas, particularly in locations with poor drainage systems. The region is under a Level 1 (Marginal) Excessive Rainfall risk through Sunday, with total rainfall potentially reaching 4-8 inches, and higher amounts in localized areas.

If you’re in the impacted areas, stay alert for rapidly changing conditions and take precautions to avoid being caught in hazardous weather. Be sure to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and be ready to take action if warnings are issued.
