Pensacola, FL– Drivers along the Gulf Coast could face flooded roadways and stalled traffic within the next 48 hours as a broad swath of heavy rain sets up from Texas to Florida.

According to the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center, 3 to 5 inches of rain are likely across portions of eastern Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle through early next week, with isolated higher totals possible. The heaviest corridor aligns near the I-10 corridor, where repeated rounds of storms may train over the same areas.

Statewide, Louisiana and Mississippi sit in the core of the highest rainfall totals, with saturated ground increasing the risk of flash flooding. Urban areas including Houston, New Orleans, Mobile and Pensacola could see rapid ponding on interstates, frontage roads and low-water crossings during heavier downpours. Rural counties near the Sabine River and Pearl River basins may also experience rising creeks by Sunday night.

In Texas, heavy rain from Beaumont to Houston could slow the Monday morning commute. Farther east, Alabama’s Baldwin County and Florida’s Escambia and Santa Rosa counties face localized street flooding during peak rainfall rates.

Residents should clear storm drains, avoid driving through water-covered roads and charge devices in case of isolated power outages. Additional flood advisories or flash flood warnings may be issued as rainfall bands develop and shift through midweek.
