Tallahassee, Florida – Blistering heat is gripping the Florida Panhandle, south Georgia, and southeast Alabama today, with heat indices soaring to a dangerous 112°F in some cities. Residents from Panama City to Albany are urged to take precautions as a Major Heat Advisory (Level 3) remains in effect until Tuesday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, heat index values will hover between 105–112°F this afternoon, making outdoor activity hazardous for anyone without access to adequate cooling or hydration. The advisory covers much of the region, including Dothan, Bainbridge, Valdosta, Perry, and Apalachicola. Isolated locations may see temperatures slightly above forecasted highs.
While the main risk is oppressive heat, scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop later today. An isolated storm could produce damaging wind gusts, though widespread severe weather is not anticipated. Localized power outages and brief travel delays are possible if storms turn strong.
A return to higher rain chances on Wednesday and Thursday may bring some relief from the recent heat. Warnings remain in effect through Tuesday evening; further advisories may follow if severe storms develop.
