Tallahassee, Florida – A notable shift to colder and windier conditions is underway across North Florida, South Georgia, and Southeast Alabama as a cold air mass moves into the region. The National Weather Service in Tallahassee reports that breezy northwest winds today will usher in much cooler temperatures tonight, setting the stage for freezing to near-freezing conditions early Monday and Tuesday mornings.

Sunday afternoon temperatures will fall steadily behind the cold front, with sustained winds of 10 to 20 mph and peak gusts around 30 mph. The highest likelihood of gusts exceeding 25 mph is expected west of the Flint River, across Southeast Alabama, and into the eastern Florida Panhandle. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects, as gusty winds may cause minor property issues and difficult driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Overnight lows tonight will dip into the low to mid-30s across much of the region, with some inland locations near or briefly below freezing by Monday morning. Wind chills will make it feel colder, ranging from the mid-20s to mid-30s during the morning commute. Areas such as Tallahassee, Albany, Bainbridge, Dothan, and Valdosta are expected to experience the coldest wind chills between sunrise and mid-morning Monday.

Cold conditions will linger into Tuesday morning, with another round of chilly wind chills expected before temperatures begin a gradual rebound. By Tuesday afternoon and evening, highs are forecast to return closer to seasonal averages as winds diminish and the cold air mass moderates.

Residents should take precautions to protect sensitive plants, pets, and exposed plumbing, particularly in areas prone to freezing temperatures. Dressing in layers, limiting time outdoors during the coldest hours, and using caution on breezy roadways are recommended.

While no widespread winter weather is expected, the combination of gusty winds and cold mornings makes this a notable cold snap for the region. Additional updates or advisories may be issued if conditions change.
