Tallahassee, FL – Residents across the Florida Panhandle and parts of south Georgia and southeast Alabama face an unusually dry week ahead, with the National Weather Service warning that drought conditions may begin to develop.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, the seven-day precipitation forecast shows near-zero rain chances through Friday, September 19. Minimal showers—only around 5 to 15 percent—are possible late this weekend into early next week. Cities including Tallahassee, Valdosta, Albany, and Panama City are all expected to remain mostly dry.

Forecasters caution that the extended dry stretch comes after an already rain-free start to September. That raises the potential for drought expansion and increases wildfire danger. The NWS noted that dry conditions often lead to brush fires, and even small outdoor burns could quickly spread if winds increase.

Local officials may advise against burning brush, trash, or yard debris during this period. In extreme fire conditions, mandatory evacuation orders could be issued if wildfires threaten communities.

Residents are encouraged to stay alert to updated fire advisories and to use caution with outdoor flames. “Be careful if planning to burn, as they can lead to potential brush fires or wildfires if the winds get too strong,” the NWS wrote in a Monday morning update.
