Tallahassee, FL – Early October weather across the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend will bring a mix of hazards this weekend, with breezy post-frontal winds, dangerous marine conditions, and worsening drought, according to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee.

A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect through Sunday night for coastal waters from the Okaloosa-Walton County line to the Suwannee River, where northeast winds of 20–25 knots and seas up to 8 feet offshore are expected. Forecasters also warn of a high risk of rip currents near St. George Island and nearby beaches, urging inexperienced mariners to avoid small craft operations and swimmers to stay near lifeguards.

Inland, a cool and breezy pattern will settle in through the weekend, with overnight lows dropping into the 50s and afternoon highs staying mild. Wind gusts of 20–25 mph will accompany the cooler air.

Meanwhile, the regional drought continues to worsen, especially across Southwest Georgia and the Florida Big Bend, where extreme to severe drought conditions are now observed. The National Weather Service reports little to no rainfall expected next week, with temperatures climbing back into the 80s by midweek — further aggravating dry conditions.

Residents are encouraged to conserve water and stay updated on local fire and outdoor burn restrictions as the dry spell persists.
