Tallahassee, Florida – A widespread round of beneficial rain is expected to move across the Florida Panhandle, southeast Alabama, and southwest Georgia Monday night into Tuesday, bringing one of the more meaningful rainfall events the region has seen in weeks. While this will not be enough to end the ongoing drought, it will provide much-needed moisture to areas that have been running significantly dry.

According to the National Weather Service, the highest chances of at least one inch of rain — roughly a 50–70% probability — stretch across southeast Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle. Cities most likely to benefit include Dothan, Enterprise, Marianna, Bonifay, and DeFuniak Springs. Farther east toward Tallahassee, the chances for heavier totals taper off, though steady rain is still likely overnight Monday into early Tuesday.

Meteorologists note that the system will be fast-moving but efficient, with widespread, soaking rainfall expected for several hours. The heaviest rain is projected to fall between late Monday evening and sunrise Tuesday, bringing potential impacts to early commuters, including slower travel and reduced visibility.

Rain amounts east of the Apalachicola and Flint River basins may trend lower, but even lighter totals will help ease short-term dryness. A secondary, weaker chance for additional rainfall is possible later in the week as another disturbance approaches.

Drivers are encouraged to use caution Monday night and early Tuesday, especially in rural areas where ponding can form on low-lying roads. No flooding concerns are expected at this time due to ongoing drought conditions and dry soil.

Forecasters will issue updated details through the rest of the weekend as the moisture moves in from the Gulf. More rainfall opportunities may follow by the end of the week if current trends hold.
