Tallahassee, FL – Heavy rain hammered the Florida Panhandle, southeast Alabama, and southwest Georgia overnight, prompting an extended Flood Watch through Tuesday evening as swollen creeks and waterlogged roads create dangerous conditions for drivers and residents alike. According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, widespread rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected by Tuesday night, with some coastal and low-lying areas potentially seeing totals of 8 inches or more.

Major cities including Tallahassee, Panama City, Dothan, and Valdosta are at risk for flash flooding, especially in neighborhoods with poor drainage or near storm-clogged ditches. Emergency officials warn that rivers and streams could rise quickly, with localized flooding likely along the Emerald Coast and I-10 corridor. On Sunday, several communities already recorded up to 9 inches, lowering the threshold for new flooding and raising the stakes for any additional downpours.

Residents in flood-prone zones should prepare for rapid changes—move vehicles to higher ground, avoid travel through standing water, and keep cell phones charged in case of power outages. If you encounter a flooded road, turn around—don’t risk it.

The Flood Watch remains in effect until Tuesday evening, and more warnings could be issued if rainfall intensifies. Stay tuned for the latest updates and be ready to act as conditions change.
