Tallahassee, FL – Drivers across the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend region woke up to dense fog this Thursday morning, significantly reducing visibility and increasing hazards on major roadways, including U.S. 319. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a dense fog advisory lasting until 9 a.m.

According to the NWS Tallahassee office, visibility has dropped to less than a quarter mile in some areas, making driving conditions dangerous. Low visibility is expected to persist through early morning hours, particularly in Leon, Wakulla, and Jefferson counties. As the fog is swept out by a cold front moving east, conditions will improve by midday. Motorists are urged to slow down, maintain a safe following distance, and keep headlights on—even after sunrise.

By Thursday afternoon, mostly cloudy skies will give way to clearer conditions, with a high of 72°F expected in Tallahassee. Winds will shift northwest at 9 mph, ushering in cooler air overnight. Temperatures are forecast to dip to around 44°F by nightfall.

Looking ahead, the weekend promises sunny skies and colder mornings. Friday’s high will reach 63°F, with lows dropping to 36°F overnight. Frost may develop early Saturday morning, as temperatures hover near freezing. However, sunshine will dominate the forecast through Sunday, with highs climbing into the mid-50s.

For those planning holiday travel, ensure vehicles are fog-ready and expect colder-than-average temperatures over the weekend. Stay tuned for updated forecasts and drive safely during hazardous conditions.
