Tallahassee, Florida – A Marginal Risk for severe weather is in place for Saturday across parts of the Florida Panhandle, Big Bend, southwest Georgia, and southeast Alabama as a cold front moves through the region.
According to the National Weather Service Tallahassee, isolated severe storms are possible from Saturday morning into the early evening. The Storm Prediction Center has assigned the area a Level 1 of 5 risk, indicating limited coverage but potential for stronger storms.
Forecasters say the primary threats include isolated damaging wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph and hail, with a low-end chance for one or two tornadoes. Storms are expected to be scattered rather than widespread.
In addition to the severe weather threat, much-needed rainfall is forecast across much of the region. While the rain is not expected to significantly reduce drought conditions, any additional rainfall will be beneficial.
The cold front is expected to sweep from northwest to southeast, bringing changing conditions throughout the day. Timing and impacts may vary by location, with some areas seeing storms earlier in the day and others later in the afternoon.
Residents are encouraged to ensure they have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, especially if outdoor activities or travel are planned on Saturday. While widespread impacts are not expected, isolated storms could become strong with little notice.
The National Weather Service advises staying weather-aware as the system approaches and monitoring updates for any changes to the forecast.
