Palm Beach County, FL – A Sunday marine patrol off Boynton Inlet led to the seizure of over 120 kilograms of cocaine and dozens of bottles of codeine cough syrup, authorities said.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), deputies with the Marine Enforcement Unit spotted a vessel traveling westbound on August 31 before it suddenly turned north in what appeared to be an attempt to evade law enforcement. Deputies stopped the boat and escorted it to the Lantana Boat Ramp for further investigation.
During a search, PBSO and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officers discovered several duffel bags packed with contraband. In total, officials reported finding 124 kilograms of cocaine and 98 bottles of cough syrup containing codeine.
The sole occupant of the boat was identified as a Bahamian national, who was taken into custody. According to PBSO, the case has been turned over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) for further review. The man, whose name was not released, was placed under arrest and now faces federal charges.
Federal and state partners, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Air and Marine Operations (AMO), are assisting in the ongoing case. Officials say the drugs will be processed as evidence, and the investigation remains active.
