Melbourne, Fla. – Memorial Day celebrations across central Florida could be disrupted by dangerous afternoon storms, sizzling heat, and beach hazards stretching into Monday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, heat indices could reach between 97 and 102°F, with scattered thunderstorms expected to form across the region by midday. While not every location will see rain, any storm that develops may bring 40–50 mph wind gusts, frequent lightning, and torrential downpours.

Cities including Orlando, Daytona Beach, and Vero Beach face a 50–60% chance of rain, with high temperatures soaring into the low 90s. Melbourne and Port St. Lucie could also see pop-up storms during peak afternoon hours. Motorists are advised to slow down during heavy rainfall and watch for sudden flooding, especially on urban roadways.

At the coast, the NWS warns of a moderate rip current risk at all central Florida Atlantic beaches. Surf will reach 1 to 2 feet, and beachgoers are urged to swim near lifeguards, heed posted flags, and avoid entering the water during storms.

Heat, storms, and rip current threats are expected to linger through Monday evening. Additional weather statements may follow as conditions evolve.
