Vero Beach, Fla. – Boaters along Florida’s Treasure Coast should seek safe harbor immediately as a dangerous thunderstorm moves through waters from Sebastian Inlet to Jupiter Inlet through 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, the storm was detected at 3:29 p.m. over Winter Beach and is moving southeast at 20 knots. Radar indicates wind gusts exceeding 34 knots and the potential for large hail, making conditions hazardous for small vessels and watercraft.
Impacted areas include Fort Pierce Inlet, Vero Beach, Queens Cove, Gifford, and Pepper Beach Park. Mariners in the affected zone should expect rapidly building seas, intense lightning, and blinding downpours. Authorities urge anyone on the water to don life jackets and head for shelter immediately.
The warning covers coastal waters out to 20 nautical miles, including popular recreational boating zones. Large hail could damage hulls or injure anyone on deck.
