Washington, D.C. — A nationwide recall of HALO 1000 Portable Power Stations is underway after a Florida man’s death linked to a fire hazard in the device. A 79-year-old man in Bradenton, Florida, reportedly died from smoke inhalation in June 2022 after a fire involving the HALO 1000 power station in his home.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recall involves about 5,740 units of the power station sold between October 2021 and March 2022 for prices ranging from $1,000 to $1,300. The devices, manufactured in China by Shenzhen DBK Electronics Co. Ltd. and imported by ZAGG Inc., were sold by retailers like ACG and QVC. The CPSC warns that the power station’s lithium-ion batteries can overheat, leading to potential fire and burn hazards.
CPSC reports four additional incidents, including two cases of smoke inhalation and one burn injury, due to overheating. The recalled power stations are identified by model number PS-1000 and come in various colors. Consumers are urged to stop using these devices immediately and contact ZAGG for a free replacement. The CPSC advises against discarding the units improperly due to the potential hazard from the lithium-ion batteries.
