Bonita Springs, FL – Deputies arrested a Bonita Springs man after a disturbing case of animal cruelty, authorities said.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Wednesday to a home on the 25000 block of Carnoustie Court. A resident reported finding a box containing two severed cat heads on their mailbox. The Animal Cruelty Task Force and 4th Precinct detectives launched an immediate investigation.
Detectives identified Robert James Luther III, 37, as a suspect using surveillance footage and forensic tools. Later that day, deputies found Luther III fishing behind a closed business on Corporation Circle. He refused to answer questions.
Search warrants uncovered disturbing cellphone videos allegedly linking him to the crime. Detectives arrested Luther III on two counts of aggravated animal cruelty and two counts of aggravated stalking.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno condemned the crime, stating, “Any offender will face severe consequences.”
Luther III remains in custody at the Lee County Jail. His court date has not been released.
