CHICAGO, Ill. – After a multi-state interstate chase initiated in Indiana, the Illinois State Police successfully apprehended a 31-year-old Florida man early this morning.

According to Lake County Sheriff’s Department reports the individual was linked to a burglary at Sunbelt Rentals in Hobart, Indiana, where a U-Haul van filled with approximately $75,000 worth of stolen tools and equipment was used as the getaway vehicle around 2 a.m. Monday morning.

Multiple agencies engaged in the chase before the van crossed state lines into Illinois, darting through Chicago. The van finally came to a halt near 71st and South Perry Street, where the driver eluded capture, fleeing on foot. The Florida man, however, wasn’t so fortunate. Caught after attempting to leap over a fence at 70th and Wentworth, officers recovered nearly $10,000 from his possessions.

The identity of the suspect has yet to be released. Illinois State Police have since transferred the suspect to an Illinois jail.
