Fort Myers, FL – A 71-year-old Fort Myers man was arrested over the weekend in connection with a fatal stabbing during a domestic disturbance.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on Bermar Street on Saturday night following a report of a domestic altercation. While en route, a second emergency call alerted authorities that someone at the residence had been stabbed.

Deputies from the 2nd Precinct arrived and found a victim suffering from a stab wound to the chest. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim succumbed to their injuries. Deputies located a man matching the suspect’s description walking nearby and detained him at the scene.

Authorities identified the suspect as Alberto Arcia Lopez, 71, who allegedly had a domestic relationship with the victim. Investigators believe Lopez stabbed the individual once during an argument and then fled the residence on foot, allegedly attempting to dispose of the weapon.

Detectives from the Homicide Unit canvassed the area and recovered a knife believed to be used in the crime from a nearby grassy area on a neighbor’s property.

Lopez was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder, according to officials. Sheriff Carmine Marceno praised the rapid work of deputies and detectives, stating, “Because of you all, justice will be rightfully served for the victim’s family.”

The name of the victim has not yet been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
