Tampa, Florida – Triple-digit heat indices are expected to blanket the Tampa Bay region through Sunday, creating dangerous afternoon conditions for inland residents despite slightly reduced rain chances.
According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, drier air aloft will help limit widespread storms, but will also allow high temperatures to climb into the mid-90s each day. With humidity factored in, it could feel as hot as 107°F, especially in central inland counties like Polk and eastern Hillsborough.
Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms remain possible Friday through Sunday, with rain chances between 20% and 50% depending on the day. The Gulf Coast beaches may see some relief from sea breezes, but urban areas and inland communities could experience prolonged heat stress.
Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity between noon and 5 p.m., stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Those heading to the beach or pool should still monitor for pop-up storms and seek shelter if thunder roars.
Heat advisories may be issued if conditions worsen. The National Weather Service will continue to update alerts through the weekend.
