Tallahassee, Florida – Scorching heat is gripping the Southeast today, with inland areas in North Florida and South Georgia hitting the mid to upper 90s. Valdosta topped out at a sweltering 97°F, while Tallahassee, Bainbridge, and Albany reached 95°F by mid-afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, the heat will continue through the evening across southern Georgia, southeast Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle, especially away from the Gulf Coast. Coastal areas like Apalachicola and Destin stayed cooler, peaking in the low 80s, but inland cities like Marianna, Dothan, and Moultrie ranged from 93°F to 94°F.

Officials urge residents to take precautions against heat illness, particularly vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, pregnant women, and those with chronic health conditions. The NWS reminds everyone to never leave pets or people in vehicles, use air conditioning, stay hydrated, and wear lightweight clothing.

Panama City and Crestview are also expected to see highs near 87°F to 90°F, with humidity amplifying the heat index. Emergency managers advise limiting outdoor work or activities during peak hours.

High temperatures remain in the forecast for Friday. Additional heat advisories could be issued if conditions persist.
