Orlando, Fla. – A stretch of dangerously hot weather will grip central Florida through early next week, with Orlando expected to hit 96°F daily from Saturday through Monday, posing a Major HeatRisk for residents without access to cooling.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, high pressure is locking in a pattern of dry, above-normal temperatures across East Central Florida. Heat index values in the mid-90s to low 100s are expected Thursday through the weekend, with Friday seeing the start of a more intense heat spike.

Orlando faces the highest risk, reaching the “major” level on the HeatRisk scale by Monday. This level signifies potential health threats to much of the population, especially those without air conditioning, hydration, or access to cooling centers. Daytona Beach, Leesburg, and Melbourne will also see sustained highs in the low to mid-90s, with moderate risk levels most days.

Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, wear light-colored, breathable clothing, and stay hydrated. Air conditioning is strongly recommended, especially overnight when there will be little relief from the heat.

Heat alerts may be extended if conditions persist. Stay tuned to weather.gov/melbourne for updates and additional safety guidance.
