Miami, Florida – Sweltering heat is gripping South Florida again today, with parts of Miami-Dade and Broward counties facing dangerous conditions as feels-like temperatures surge past 100°F.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, afternoon highs will climb into the 90s, but humidity will push the heat index into the 100–105°F range from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. Areas including Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Homestead, and Naples are under a Moderate to Major Heat Risk, which can be especially dangerous for those without access to air conditioning or adequate hydration.
Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak heat hours, drink water frequently, and take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces. Electric fans alone may not prevent heat illness. Vulnerable groups—including seniors, young children, and outdoor workers—should take extra precautions.
This marks one of the season’s first widespread major heat alerts across South Florida, stretching inland to La Belle and Immokalee. Similar to early heat events in 2022, power usage could spike and heat-related illnesses may rise.
Heat advisories remain in effect through this afternoon, with the potential for extended warnings if conditions persist into Tuesday.
