Miami, Florida – South Florida residents are sweltering under a dangerous heat wave Friday, with heat indices climbing as high as 111° in parts of Collier and Hendry counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Heat Advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Friday for all of South Florida. The combination of mid-to-upper 90s temperatures and high humidity is pushing heat index values well into the triple digits — peaking at 111° in Immokalee and Everglades City, 110° in La Belle, and 109° in Naples.

The advisory urges residents to limit outdoor activity during the hottest hours, typically between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Vulnerable groups — including the elderly, children, and outdoor workers — face heightened risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and Homestead are all expecting heat indices over 105°.

If air conditioning is unavailable, local officials recommend seeking out cooling centers or shaded public spaces. Light-colored, breathable clothing, water intake, and regular breaks are key to staying safe.

This marks one of the hottest days of the summer so far, with excessive heat warnings likely to continue into the weekend for inland and Gulf Coast regions.
