Orlando, Florida – Triple-digit heat index values are gripping central and east Florida today, with dangerous conditions expected across Orlando, Daytona Beach, the Space Coast, and Okeechobee through 7 p.m. Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 12 to 7 p.m., with actual temperatures ranging from 93° to 98° and heat index values peaking at 106° to 110°. The advisory excludes the Treasure Coast but includes high-risk areas like Kissimmee, Sanford, and Leesburg.
Cities across the region are nearing or surpassing long-standing temperature records—Orlando could match its 100° record set in 1936, while Sanford, Daytona Beach, and Vero Beach are flirting with highs not seen in over a decade.
Officials urge residents to stay indoors in air conditioning, hydrate frequently, and limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours. Lightweight, light-colored clothing is recommended. Vulnerable groups, including children, seniors, and outdoor workers, face elevated risk of heat-related illness.
A slight chance (20%) of afternoon storms west of the Orlando metro area could offer brief relief, but humidity and heat are expected to persist into Monday.
The Heat Advisory remains active until 7 p.m., and additional alerts may be issued if conditions worsen.
