Melbourne, Florida – Extreme heat is gripping East Central Florida again Thursday, with heat index values soaring as high as 110° and a Heat Advisory in effect until 7 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, all of East Central Florida—including Orlando, Daytona Beach, Melbourne, and Fort Pierce—will experience high temperatures between 93° and 97°, with humidity pushing “feels like” temps into dangerous territory. A Level 3 to 4 HeatRisk classification (major to extreme) remains in place across most of the region.
Orlando, Daytona Beach, and Melbourne are facing high heat exposure through at least Monday, with little overnight relief. Afternoon storms are expected to develop with the sea breeze, offering brief cooling but also increasing the risk of cloud-to-ground lightning from Thursday through early next week.
Residents should stay indoors during peak heat, hydrate frequently, wear light-colored clothing, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Those without air conditioning are especially at risk, as overnight lows will hover in the upper 70s.
The advisory may be extended, with additional alerts possible this weekend as dangerous heat and scattered storms persist.
