TAMPA, Fla. – Afternoon thunderstorms will continue to disrupt Tampa Bay through the weekend and into next week, bringing the risk of flooding downpours and dangerous lightning during peak travel hours. Heat index values could reach 101 degrees this afternoon before storms move in.

According to the National Weather Service, storms are most likely after 3 p.m. today with rainfall amounts of up to half an inch possible. Localized flooding could impact roads in Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater, particularly in low-lying areas. Sunday brings another round of storms by late morning, with heavy rain and frequent lightning expected through the evening.

Commuters may face slowdowns along I-275 and the Howard Frankland Bridge as rain intensifies during afternoon drive times. Outdoor events and beachgoers should prepare for sudden storm development, especially along the Pinellas County coastline. Winds remain light, but gusty conditions near storms could down small branches or knock out power.

The unsettled pattern is forecast to continue into midweek, with scattered thunderstorms likely each afternoon through Wednesday. Residents are urged to keep phones charged, avoid flooded roads, and seek shelter when thunder is heard.

Storm chances remain high until at least Wednesday, with further advisories possible.
