Tampa, FL – Residents across the Tampa Bay area should prepare for a stormy start to the workweek, with heavy rain and possible thunderstorms expected Monday afternoon. Gusty winds and localized street flooding could make travel difficult from mid-afternoon into the evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service, Monday’s storm chance rises sharply after 2 p.m., with rainfall totals between a quarter and half an inch possible. The strongest storms could deliver brief but intense downpours, frequent lightning, and wind gusts near 30 mph. Southeast winds will increase to 8 mph by the afternoon, adding to the unsettled conditions.

Drivers should allow extra time for commutes and avoid flooded roads, particularly in low-lying neighborhoods and along major routes like I-275 and the Howard Frankland Bridge. Outdoor plans, including beach trips and late-day boating, should be wrapped up before midday.

Storm chances diminish overnight, but another round of showers is possible Tuesday morning. Conditions may briefly improve midweek before additional rain moves in Thursday.
