TAMPA, Fla. – Scattered thunderstorms and soaring heat are expected to grip the Tampa Bay region through midweek, bringing afternoon downpours, lightning, and heat index values climbing above 105.
According to the National Weather Service in Ruskin, storms will build Monday afternoon with a 50% chance of rain, followed by a greater risk Tuesday when widespread thunderstorms are expected after 2 p.m. Highs will reach 94 degrees both days, with oppressive humidity adding to the danger.
Localized flooding could develop in low-lying areas during heavier downpours. Storms may disrupt evening commutes along I-275, I-4, and U.S. 41, while lightning poses hazards to outdoor activities around Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater. Residents are advised to stay indoors during storms and avoid flooded intersections.
The unsettled weather pattern continues Wednesday, with storms likely during the afternoon and evening before gradually easing overnight. Conditions remain muggy, with highs near 93 on Thursday as scattered thunderstorms linger.
