Jacksonville, FL – Residents in northern Florida and southeast Georgia are bracing for freezing temperatures, with lows expected to drop as far as 28°F by Monday morning. A freeze warning remains in effect until 10 a.m., with colder weather projected for early Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning includes Alachua, Duval, and Nassau counties in Florida, as well as Glynn and Camden counties in Georgia. Officials urge residents to protect outdoor plants, wrap exposed pipes, and ensure pets have adequate shelter.

This cold snap is unusual for the region, where January lows typically average in the mid-40s. Wind chills may make temperatures feel even colder, especially in open areas.

Experts recommend running faucets at a slow drip to prevent pipes from freezing and keeping homes adequately heated. For vulnerable populations like children and the elderly, ensure they have warm clothing and indoor heating sources.

Conditions are expected to moderate slightly by Tuesday afternoon, with highs climbing into the 50s.
