Jacksonville, Florida – Residents across inland northeast Florida and portions of southeast Georgia should prepare for a cold start to Tuesday as temperatures dip low enough to produce frost, posing a threat to sensitive outdoor plants.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a Frost Advisory is in effect from early Tuesday morning through mid-morning for several inland counties. Overnight temperatures are expected to fall to around 33 degrees, allowing frost to form on exposed surfaces during the pre-dawn hours.

In Florida, the advisory includes Suwannee, Baker, Inland Nassau, Hamilton, and Columbia counties, affecting communities such as Live Oak, Lake City, Jasper, Macclenny, White Springs, and areas along the Suwannee River Valley. In southeast Georgia, inland portions of Camden and Glynn counties, including communities near Woodbine and Waverly, are also included.

Frost development is most likely between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m. Tuesday, especially in rural and low-lying locations where winds are lighter and skies remain clear. While coastal areas should stay slightly warmer, inland locations could see widespread frost on vehicles, rooftops, and vegetation.

The primary concern is damage to sensitive outdoor plants. Unprotected vegetation may be harmed or killed if exposed to freezing temperatures for several hours. Residents are encouraged to cover tender plants, bring potted plants indoors if possible, and take steps to protect irrigation systems where applicable.

Travel impacts are expected to be minimal, but early-morning commuters may notice frost on windshields in colder inland spots. Allow extra time for defrosting if needed.

Temperatures are expected to rebound after sunrise as sunshine returns, ending the frost threat by mid-morning. Residents should continue to monitor local updates, especially if additional cold mornings are expected later this week.
