St. Augustine, Florida – Residents across northeast Florida and southeast Georgia have until 1 a.m. Wednesday to protect sensitive plants as temperatures fall to 33 degrees, setting up widespread frost formation before the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Wednesday for Suwannee, Inland Flagler, Eastern Clay, St. Johns, and Hamilton counties in Florida, along with Bacon, Appling, Wayne, Glynn, Echols, Camden, Coffee, Jeff Davis and Atkinson counties in Georgia. Clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to drop quickly inland and along portions of the coast.

Communities including Live Oak, Jasper, Orange Park, Palm Coast and St. Augustine could wake up to frost-covered lawns and rooftops. In southeast Georgia, Jesup, Alma, Douglas and Kingsland may see similar early morning conditions. While widespread travel disruptions are not expected, rural bridges and elevated surfaces could briefly dip near freezing.

Gardeners should cover tender vegetation with breathable fabric, bring potted plants indoors and ensure outdoor pets have warm shelter. Agricultural interests across the Suwannee Valley and coastal Georgia should monitor low-lying fields closely.

Temperatures will rebound after 8 a.m., but additional cold mornings remain possible through midweek if clear skies persist.
