Jacksonville, FL – Drivers across inland Southeast Georgia and parts of North Florida woke up to foggy conditions Wednesday morning, with visibility dropping to under half a mile in some areas. The National Weather Service in Jacksonville issued a Special Weather Statement at 6:04 a.m. warning of patchy dense fog extending from Suwannee County, Florida, to Waycross, Georgia.
According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest fog formed along the I-10 corridor west of Jacksonville and across inland areas of Southeast Georgia. Motorists in counties including Baker, Nassau, Columbia, and Hamilton in Florida, as well as Coffee, Appling, and Pierce in Georgia, may experience low-visibility conditions during the early morning commute.
Officials urge drivers to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain safe following distances while traveling through fog-prone zones. Visibility is expected to improve by around 9 a.m. as temperatures rise and fog dissipates.
Morning commuters along I-10 and surrounding rural highways should remain alert for sudden visibility drops, especially near rivers and low-lying areas.
