Jacksonville, Fla. – Dangerous heat is set to grip much of northeast Florida and southeast Georgia Thursday, with heat index values expected to soar between 108 and 112 degrees from late morning through the evening. The National Weather Service warns that these conditions could quickly lead to heat-related illnesses for anyone outdoors too long without proper precautions.

According to the NWS in Jacksonville, the Heat Advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, covering dozens of counties from Live Oak to Palm Coast in Florida, and from Brunswick to Waycross in Georgia. High humidity will combine with already scorching temperatures to push “feels like” readings well into the danger zone.

Residents are urged to limit strenuous activity, take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces, and check on elderly neighbors or those without cooling access. Outdoor workers should follow OSHA guidance for frequent rest breaks and hydration. Heat stroke is a medical emergency—call 911 immediately if symptoms occur.

Conditions are expected to ease Thursday night, but similar high heat could return over the weekend if humidity remains elevated.
